Three numbers, and the one your field is using

Characters on screen is what you see: 👩🏽‍🚀 is 1. Pieces Unicode sees takes that same emoji apart into the 4 it is built from. Length most apps see is higher again, because a single emoji usually takes the room of 2 ordinary letters, which makes that astronaut 7. A field with a limit of 150 might be using any of the 3, which is why a bio that looks short can still be refused.

The budgets above assume the friendliest reading, the one a reader would agree with. If a field rejects text this page says fits, it is counting one of the other 2, and the numbers at the top tell you how much worse it gets.

Nothing you paste leaves the page

The counting happens on your own device. Your draft is never sent anywhere and nothing keeps a copy of it, which is the whole point of doing the arithmetic here rather than somewhere else. Privacy covers the rest of the site on the same terms.
