1 set of codes, 3 apps that grew it

The :colon: codes came out of GitHub's emoji list and were adopted by Slack, Discord, Notion and most of the chat software written since. The 1870 codes here are that shared list, matched to the emoji they expand into. Where an app has added its own, it is a custom emoji uploaded to that workspace rather than a code anybody else can type.

A code only expands where the app expands it. Pasting :tada: into a caption on Instagram leaves the literal text, which is why the converter above exists: it turns the codes into the characters before you paste them somewhere that will not.

Nothing leaves the page

The codes travel with this page and the converting happens on your own device. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, and the full emoji set they belong to is on the emoji list.

Reading about an emoji, and using one

A catalog tells you what an emoji means and copies it for you. Emojery is what turns it into a reaction on the page you found it for, next to everyone else's.
