Auto-press the original buttons

With Auto-press on, picking an emoji also presses the site's own Like, Star, upvote or downvote. Which emoji press what is entirely yours to arrange.

Turn it on

  1. Open the popup and go to the Settings tab.
  2. Switch on Auto-press original buttons. It is off until you do.
  3. The 3 sorting lists appear underneath.

Sort the emoji

Every emoji sits in exactly 1 of 3 lists, and the list it is in decides what a reaction with it presses. Presses Like / Upvote holds the ones you consider positive, Presses Dislike / Downvote the negative ones, and Presses nothing everything you want counted as a reaction without touching the page.

  1. Drag an emoji out of one list and into another. On a touchscreen, tap the emoji and then tap the list you want it in.
  2. Repeat for every emoji you want moved. The neutral list is searchable, which beats scrolling the whole set.
  3. Changed your mind about the lot? Reset to defaults puts the original arrangement back.

What happens on a site with no dislike

Instagram, X, Threads, GitHub and GitLab have nothing to press for a negative emoji, so a negative pick leaves their controls alone. YouTube and Reddit do have one, and there a negative emoji presses Dislike or downvote.

If Emojery had already auto-pressed a Like for you and you switch to a negative or neutral emoji, it releases that Like again.

Facebook reactions are matched one to one

Facebook has 6 native reactions rather than a single Like, and Emojery maps an exact emoji onto each of them. The FAQ lists the whole mapping, emoji by emoji.

The native reaction is chosen by its position in Facebook's own menu rather than by its label, so the mapping holds in every interface language.

The presses are real

One emoji pick presses at most 1 native control, on the page in front of you, under the account you are already signed in with. There is no background automation and no bulk action.

That also means an auto-pressed Reddit downvote affects karma and ranking exactly as a manual one does. Un-reacting releases only what Emojery pressed; a button you pressed by hand yourself is never touched.

It works while the buttons are hidden

Hide original buttons only hides the site's control from view. The control is still on the page, and Auto-press presses it the same either way.
