How to write frames that read
- 1 line is 1 frame. An empty line is an empty frame, which is how a blink is made.
- Spaces move things. Padding an emoji with spaces walks it across the stage, as the walking preset does.
- Several emoji per frame are fine. The whole line is drawn centred, so a frame can be a small scene.
- Between 4 and 12 frames is where a loop reads as motion rather than as a slideshow or a flicker.
Where the video and the GIF come from
There are 2 files to take away, and which one you want depends on where it is going. The video is recorded straight off the stage as it plays, and it is the one social apps and video editors expect. The GIF is built a frame at a time, and it is the one to use where a picture has to move on its own: a forum post, a wiki, a chat that will not play video.
A GIF holds fewer colours than a video does, and the ones it keeps are chosen from your own frames. Emoji on a flat background come through cleanly; a frame full of photographic detail would come out blotchy.
Where the recorder is missing, the button says so rather than failing quietly. The frames themselves are always copyable as text, which is the version that pastes into a chat.
